Integration of Social Intelligence in the Cluster of Excellence Science of Intelligence

The experimental postdoctoral researcher should provide scientific services in research within the excellence cluster “Science of Intelligence”, in the integration project B2 “Social Intelligence”. Integration/implementation of various behavioral components and principles of learning and teaching in social interaction with the aim of realizing a synthetic example of social intelligence in the form of a learner-teacher scenario with humanoid robots (Pepper and Nao).
Responsibilities include scientific research within the project and academic services in the Cluster. The postdoc positions requires participation in research colloquia, lecture series and workshops, as well as an active engagement in the Cluster's research activities and close collaboration with other projects working on social intelligence.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the EU project METATOOL

The EU project METATOOL aims to provide a computational model of synthetic awareness to enhance adaptation and achieve tool invention. This will enable a robot to monitor and self- evaluate its performance, ground and reuse this information for adapting to new circumstances, and finally unlock the possibility of creating new tools. Under the predictive account of awareness, and based on both neuroscientific and archeological evidence, we will develop a novel computational model of metacognition based on predictive processing (metaprediction) and validate its utility in real robots in two use case scenarios: conditional sequential tasks and tool creation. At Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, we will develop and investigate computational models for tool-use and tool invention based on predictive processing paradigms. The models will be evaluated and implemented in robots interacting with tools in a real physical environment.

PhD student open position (dl Nov 24 2022):

Adaptive learning strategies in robots for social interactions in the Cluster of Excellence Science of Intelligence

The doctoral project focuses on adaptive learning strategies in Human-Robot Interaction and in Robot-Robot Interaction. One aim is to develop adaptive learning strategies in robots that can guide the learning process depending on the context, task difficulty, current knowledge of the robot and specific characteristics of the teacher. We will investigate learning and exploration strategies such as intrinsic motivation systems and evaluate them based on learning success and insights from learning theories in humans. Responsibilities include scientific research within the project and academic services in the Cluster. The postdoc positions requires participation in research colloquia, lecture series and workshops, as well as an active engagement in the Cluster's research activities and close collaboration with a second theoretical postdoc hired in the same project.
